NOT only is fitness fanatic 54-year-old Bradley Doyle in the middle of an 880-mile bike ride, but he is kipping in a one-man tent every night so he 'doesn’t get too comfy'.

Bradley expects the mammoth ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End to take him 10 days, and in order to raise as much as he can for St Ann’s Hospice he is spending most nights sleeping at the side of the road.

A dedicated marathon runner, Bradley, of Market Street, Tyldelsey, set off on August 16 and hopes to raise £2,000 for the hospice in Meadowsweet Lane, Little Hulton.

He said: “I have never done a bike ride on this scale before but I just wanted to get started.

“I wanted to raise money for the hospice because a lot of my friends have gone through there so I am doing it for them.”

Bradley, who recycles building materials for a living, is taking on the challenge alone and won’t even have a support van to help him should he encounter any problems.

“I have a one-man tent so I am just kipping at the side of the road — I don’t want to get too comfy.

“When I have a rest day I will probably find a bed and breakfast for two of the nights,” he said.

“The weather has been a bit better than it has been recently.

"I’m used to working in rain so I don’t mind it too much but I’m glad I didn’t set off a week earlier.”
