THE Astley and Tyldesley team enjoyed a great day of racing in the first final round of the British Youth and Junior League at Hull.

The weather consisted of just about everything, but this didn't put any of the youngsters off.

In the under eights’ event, Max Quarmby showed excellent form and chased all day.

Max's hard work is paying off, in his first national round he battled to third in the C final.

John White, a young but seasoned rider in this class, showed how his hard work at training is paying off by racing unbeaten all day, including winning the A final.

John now leads the under eights Grand Prix series in the country.

In the under 10s match, Joe Quarmby competed in his first national and took a well-earned first place in the C final, after battling hard in the dry conditions.

Ben Dickinson rode one of his best set of races, but just couldn't get any luck, twice having unfortunate tangles whilst pushing hard for the win.

Ben finished third in the B Final but his riding had deserved much more.

The under 12s took the track as the weather took on a biblical theme, with torrential rain.

Max Evans and Matt Snell both made the best of tricky draws to secure places in the B final, only one point off reaching the A final.

The Team Green pair ran away with the B final, taking first and second spots home.

The under 14s riders were next and Ciaran Collins showed his much improving speed in this competitive class.

With his usual mix of tumbles and incidents, Ciaran was eventually third in the B final.

Last up for A&T was Reece Pollitt, who scored an excellent 14 points in the heat races of the under 16s category.

He qualified for the A final and finished in third position.

Collectively, the eight Astley & Tyldesley riders came third in the team standings, which is a massive achievement, making an impression in every age category.

The next match at Gin Pit is this forthcoming Sunday, when A&T stage the fourth round of the Northern Fours and Junior League series.

First race is at 12noon, at the Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare Club, Meanley Road, Gin Pit, Tyldesley, M29 7DW.
