Leigh Miners Rangers 30 Hull Dockers 16

LEIGH Miners Rangers ground out a tough win against resilient opponents in Hull Dockers.

Leon Brennan contributed two tries and with Darryl Kay and Shaun Dowie on form, Miners overcame Dockers’ efforts from Jon Eccles, with a brace, Steve Milne and Andy Kay.

The visitors took an early lead through Eccles, Craig Skelton goaling, but Miners responded when Brennan sliced through for his first.

A double sin-binning midway through the half saw Jimmy Muir and Arron Bradley taking 10-minute sabbaticals, but Miners struck with Brennan weaving his way through for his second.

Dockers, though, held the interval advantage as Skelton was first to a kick by halfback partner Andy Kay to ground a converted try.

Minutes into the second half Jack Probert finished off Dowie's break, but Dockers struck back when Eccles crashed through for his second.

Miners snatched the advantage back when Youds dummied his way over from acting half. Dowie then dived over following a fine Kay drive and offload and Scott O'Brien put Danny Jackson over in the closing minutes, Youds goaling both.

Miners travel to West Hull this weekend, while the Alliance side contest the North West Men’s Trohpy final against Rochdale Mayfield at Golborne Parkside, Saturday 2.30pm
