LEAGUE leaders Colls are making an early assault on the North West Men’s League First Division after three wins from three.

Opening with a win over Cammell Laird, Colls followed up with 11 goals in two victories over Wigan Robin Park and then Litherland REMCYA.

Saturday saw a 6-0 hammering of Litherland, with the league newcomers behind in the opening five minutes courtesy of a cool Mark Battersby finish.

Colls dominated proceedings and in first half injury time Mark Truffas calmed the home fans’ nerves with a close range effort.

Colls started the second half sluggishly and had keeper Josh Harris to thank for REMCYA not getting back in the game.

Mark Ayres gave a penalty away but Harris dived to his left to keep out the spot kick.

Truffas added his second from a freekick before Phil Howard got his body to a fine cross to score from close range.

Mark Battersby made it five in the 62nd minute, while he visitors continued to battle.

A sweet Jake Patton strike notched up the half dozen to give Michael Clegg's boys nine points from three games start for the first time since the 1995/96 campaign.

Colls were forced to come from behind last Monday, but enjoyed a 5-1 win over Wigan Robin Park.

The visitors took an early lead with an audacious effort. Graeme Begley spotted Colls keeper Danny Taberner off his line and chipped him from about 50 yards.

Colls looked nervy and despite having the majority of the possession never looked like breaching a resolute Robins rearguard.

Matt Boland equalised with a fine freekick 10 minutes into the second half. Taberner then made an excellent fingertip save from a rasping shot from distance.

Colls clicked into gear and made the game safe with four goals in the last 15 minutes.

Mark Battersby bagged a brace and Boland got his second before Mark Truffas wrapped things up.

On Saturday Colls play St Helens Town away in the FA Cup, before on Monday hosting Ashton Town in the league or St Helens in the cup Replay. Kick off 7.45pm.
