A HERITAGE day will have a First World War theme to mark the centenary of the conflict.

Several organisations have come together to organised the event, including Wigan Archive and Local Studies, Leigh Soroptimists, Trust in Leigh, Leigh Parish Church and Leigh Library.

The day will include displays from Army Cadets and RAF Air Cadets, as well as performances from Fred Longworth’s brass band and the All Singers Great and Small Choir.

Hannah Turner, of Leigh Local Studies, said: “There will also be a family history fair' so lots of heritage groups such as Leigh Family History Society will be coming along to support the event and promote their groups.

“An artist coming along who will run craft workshops with children to make First World War pictures. She will also unveil of a piece of artwork in the Turnpike Centre’s gallery that she has been working on with a group of children about life during the war.”

The town hall and parish church will also be open for tours on the day, September 13, from 10.30am until 3pm in Leigh’s Civic Square.
