PUPILS from a Leigh school brought an audience to tears as they sang war songs at an event to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
The event was held at Higher Folds Community Centre for people to remember those involved in the war and was based around illustrated stories from archives which were told by Mary and David Halliwell and Eileen Lydon.
St Gabriel’s Catholic Primary School Glee Club entertained the audience with songs from the war.
Community engagement officer at the centre John Latham said: “The Children sang beautifully and there was not a dry eye in the house.
“The whole day turned out to be a great event for all ages, tinged with sadness and kindled with pride and pleasure for all those who fought for our country.”
