A THEATRE group is kicking off the new year by reviving a classic mystery drama from 36 years ago.

Tyldesley Little Theatre (TLT) on Lemon Street will present Murder in Company by prolific playwrights Philip King and John Boland from Tuesday, January 24, to Saturday January 28.

Theatre director Kaye Taylor is hoping the production proves to be just as intriguing as when it was first performed in 1981.

Kaye said: "In the story a dramatic society assembles on the stage of a church hall to rehearse a mystery thriller.

"The rehearsal proceeds under difficulties until the mysterious death of the caretaker brings the situation of the whodunnit even more closely into real life.

"In other words, the show is a murder mystery within a murder mystery.

"Even more interesting will be the fact that audiences will finally be able to see TLT’s undecorated stage for the first time and will get a true feeling of life behind the scenes."

Kaye has previously sat in the director’s chair for the successful comedy Sandcastles and the imaginative comedy thriller Out of Sight, Out of Murder.

The cast features TLT regulars Ingrid Folkard-Evans, Ian Taylor, Alex Clarke and Carly Lomax.

They will be joined on stage by Hannah Boardman and Matthew Walshaw, who impressed in their first year as performers in 2016, and exciting newcomers Ian Pattinson and Cat Hughes.

To add to the fun, members of the cast recreated the press photograph used to promote the much-loved original production 36 years ago.

The show will start at 7.30pm on all five days.
