In the meantime, viewers have been given a taste of Chris Lunt’s new three-part story.

It sees Life On Mars star Philip Glenister as prison officer David Murdoch, who finds himself on the wrong side of the law when the life of his pregnant daughter, played by Emmerdale’s Sammy Winward, is threatened.

When a routine visit to a Manchester hospital with female prisoner Jules Hope (Ripper Street’s MyAnna Buring) is interrupted by menacing demands, David goes on the run with his charge and becomes “the prey”, with Reinhardt in pursuit.

The cast also includes Nathan Stewart-Jarrett as Reinhardt’s new colleague DC Richard Iddon and Ralph Ineson as her boss DCI Mike Ward.

Filmed in Manchester, Salford and Blackpool, the drama is directed by Lewis Arnold, who has previously worked on Misfits and Humans.

The first series, which starred John Simm as a policeman who goes on the run when he is suspected of killing his wife, attracted an average of 7.2 million viewers and was nominated for Bafta and RTS awards.
