The BBC is going to California for a new wildlife show celebrating some of the world’s most spectacular sea creatures.
The three-part Big Blue Live will be presented by The One Show’s Matt Baker, as well as Liz Bonnin, Steve Backshall and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall from Monterey Bay on the US west coast.
Matt said: “I’m so excited about this. I think the BBC’s Natural History Unit is the finest in the world and combining my love of live television and bringing the outdoors into our homes, this is an adventure that I can’t wait to start. It’s a super team and with a cast of whales, sharks, sea otters and other amazing creatures, it’ll be a thrilling watch.
“We will bring you everything we can during our time there and capture some incredible moments that viewers would never normally see.”
The show will focus on the arrival in the Bay’s waters of animals including whales, seals, dolphins, otters and sharks who gather there every year to feed on fish and plankton.
BBC One controller Charlotte Moore said: “In this ambitious television first, BBC One will take viewers on an extraordinary oceanic journey and get up close and personal with marine life above and beneath the water. It promises to be an unmissable live TV event showcasing a spectacular display of sea creatures rarely seen in such close proximity.”
