Chris Gascoyne has said that he hopes to do Anne Kirkbride “proud” when he returns to Corrie for Deirdre Barlow’s funeral.
The actor will be back on the cobbles as Deirdre’s step-son Peter Barlow.
The scenes will pay tribute to the actress, who died in January at the age of just 60 from cancer.
“It’s just for a few episodes. It’s all about Deirdre and the way that it’s affected Peter, Tracy (Kate Ford) and Ken (William Roache) and hopefully we can do Annie proud,” Chris told Lorraine.
He said that he missed the actress and said of the storyline: “It will put a bit of closure on it for us as well.”
Peter was last seen on screen in the ITV soap in November last year.
Viewers saw him leave for a new life in Portsmouth after being released from prison.
Meanwhile, Chris is teaming up with another former Corrie actress – Vicky Entwistle – for a stage production of The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice.
Vicky, who used to play Janice Battersby in the soap, told Lorraine of the play: “It’s a bit daunting because obviously we’re boyfriend and girlfriend and we have to do a bit of fooling around. We have to kiss, but he’s very good looking so I’m getting through it!”
She said of Weatherfield: “I miss the people… but the hours are long!”
