Inspector Andrew Smith

Welcome to your neighbourhood policing pages.

I’m Andy Smith, the Neighbourhood Inspector for Leigh, Atherton, Tyldesley and Astley Mosley Common.

I’ve been a police officer with Greater Manchester Police for over 19 years, working on the Bolton, City of Manchester and Wigan Districts.

I’m proud to have spent the majority of my career in frontline, operational roles and I am honoured to be the Neighbourhood Inspector for Leigh, Atherton, Tyldesley and Astley, especially as my grandfather was a police officer based at Leigh over fifty years ago.

I am particularly passionate about Neighbourhood Policing because it’s by working together with residents, Wigan Council, partners and other local organisations that we can make a difference and create safer communities.

I’m a firm believer in taking the fight against crime to the doorsteps of the criminals themselves. It’s information from local people that enables us to target the right people, at the right time. Our biggest successes have often been thanks to you, so if you know who’s committing crime and anti-social behaviour in your area please do get in touch. Perhaps you have the final piece of the jigsaw we’re looking for…

On these pages you can find priorities in our area that we continue to work on. We will update these priorities with the action we have taken to remedy them.

We can’t do this without you, so we have launched an alert system called Bee in the loop which will enable us to contact you directly about these priorities. It will also enable you to speak to officers on the ground, where you live, so you can tell us what matters most to you.

You can sign up at www.beeintheloop.co.uk

If this isn’t for you, you can also see our scheduled meetings. You will get to speak to an officer directly.
