Wanderers fined over Madrid crowd trouble
Police and fans battling inside the stadium
Police and fans battling inside the stadium

Bolton Wanderers have been fined more than £5,000 for the behaviour of their fans in the controversial Uefa Cup away game with Atlético Madrid.

The Spanish side have been fined three times as much - more than £14,000 - for incidents in the last 16 second-leg clash in Spain on February 21, Uefa announced on their website this afternoon.

A statement reads: "Atlético were punished for the throwing of missiles and fireworks by spectators, crowd disturbances and insufficient organisation, while Bolton were fined for crowd disturbances. Both clubs may lodge appeals within three days of receipt of the grounds for the decision."

Yeah, and we expected nothing more from UEFA.
What isn't irrelevant though is that clubs & police forces in other countries (eg Roma, Madrid, Belgrade, Istanbul) get away with problems that wouldn't be tolerated in UK or Germany or Scandinavia etc. It stinks.
I've said before, if UEFA were serious they'd send a UEFA rep to travel with the away fans to every tie and report back how they're treated. It'll never happen.

Not funny at all. The tuna is in fact a land-based fish that lives at the bottom of the spaniard's garden, feeding on scraps. It is equally at home in the sea or on land.

or why don't we buy the tuna now, let it go really mouldy, and arrange a pre-season game in atletico ? Then give it them back!

Posted by: Brownie, Bolton on 7:53pm Thu 20 Mar 08
BWFC should refuse to pay it and put their lawyers on to sueing the Madrid police for unprovoked violent conduct against their supporters.
Which idiot at UEFA came to this decision? And is the money going to the Madrid Police's benevolent fund?????
Anyway, as Bolton Wanderers won't be playing in the competition again (well probably not in our life-time)I think they should refuse to pay the fine and tell Blatter and co. what they can do with their competition.

Derby - I know all about being addicted to supporting football. I used to go home and away in the 70s and 80s when every game was accompanied by a battle.
Oh boy! How I looked forward to those battl...matches.

No, all the fun has gone out of being a football supporter.
The 8 pints before kick off, the disgusting songs, the guy who always took a p1ss where he stood on the terrace, the rancid meat pie and fly at HT, smashing your knee on crash barriers and just managing to avoid being trampled to death when a goal was scored, coming back from West Ham on a coach with no windows in it, surviving West Ham and going again just for the hell of it, I could go on and on such happy memories.

Football supporters these days don't know the meaning of excitment

Bolton to kick Meite out after United shocker

Last updated at 22:01pm on 20th March 2008

Comments Comments
Abdoulaye Meite is likely to be moved out of Bolton after demanding to come off at halftime in the defeat by Manchester United on Wednesday.

The big defender was struggling to cope with United's attack and complained of a problem with his side at the break and asked to be replaced.

That actually sounds plausible as Meiti has the character of a mercenary, drop him out of sight and play players with fight. Steinsson, Cahill, O'Brien & Gardner and I'd play McCann in front of them. Then show some ambition with Guthrie, Taylor Nolan, Diouf and Davies. Or Helgussen (if fit) and Davies up front with Dio uf replacing Taylor on the left.
One more thought, when Megson was appointed maybe he was the only manager we could attract to the club who was prepared to accept Anelkas sale up front. Decent managers would have asked for assurances that he wouldn't be sold as condition of taking the job, when he took over at Forest the same thing happened when he got the job before XMas he sold Dawson & Reid to spurs before taking them down.
Any more rumours about Shepherd recently? would be fun if he came and brought Sam with him, but I reckon we need to stay up for him to consider it.
