Fake vodka discovered on sale

BOTTLES of fake vodka have been found on sale in Leigh.

Following a complaint from a member of the public, trading standards officers visited an off-licence in the town and a small number of 70cl bottles of counterfeit Glen's Vodka were seized.

The incident follows reports of similar bottles being found on sale across the country in recent months.

Trading standards officers say there are a number of ways of checking whether bottles are genuine.

Real Glen's Vodka can be easily identified as the bottle, made by Allied Glass Containers, should have a small AGC logo around the base.

The counterfeit bottles also have "Ayrshire" mis-spelt on the front label - the letter i' is missing.

The fakes have the following codes embossed in the glass: SE607 700ml 66mm, 8509 700ml 66mm, 7828 700ml 66mm.

The real producers do not use any of these bottles for 70cl Glen's Vodka.

Anyone who has been offered or who has bought Glen's Vodka which they suspect is fake can contact Trading Standards on 01942 827476.

I think you'll find that 99.9% of people won't give a chuff that the names misspelt if it's 40% abv and cheap that will do for us.

The same goes for cigarettes. The more duty and tax the Government put on them, the more we will see rogue alcohol and cigarettes.

The cheap vodkas are as good as any on the market.
The authorities know this and concoct scare stories such as "could be poisonous" intelligent people aren't fooled by this anymore than they are when other "fake goods" are sold and they tell us "they're funded by organised crime syndicates".
