A TEAM from Macmillan was a worthy winner at the 2012 Macmillan Excellence Awards.

The Macmillan Complex Cancer and Specialist Palliative Care Allied Health Professional Team, which works in partnership with Wigan and Leigh Hospice, collected the team award.

Spokeswoman Julie Atherton said: “We are delighted to receive this award. It truly reflects the work of our multi-disciplinary allied health professional team to ensure a high standard of care for people in Ashton, Leigh and Wigan who have a complex cancer diagnosis and those who are sadly approaching the end of their lives with another life limiting disease.

"We know from the feedback we receive that the care we can provide makes a difference to our patients and their loved ones during a difficult time, and we are greatly assisted in our work through working in partnership with Wigan and Leigh Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.”

The team received a plaque and £500 at the event, held in Middlesex.

Dr Kate Fallon, chief executive of Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “This award is thoroughly deserved and is testament to the hard work and passion of this team to provide a clinically effective yet truly compassionate service to people who need highly specialised therapy for complex cancer or other life limiting diseases.

“We know that the work they do often involves difficult and distressing circumstances but it is clear that they are making a difference to people’s lives and we are proud to have such a dedicated and highly skilled team within our Trust.”
