CORONATION Street star Sally Dynevor who fought breast cancer at the same time as her character Sally Webster, has pledged her support to survivors.

She opened the new premises of Womanzone at Culcheth Enterprise Centre, specialists in providing made-to-measure lingerie and swimwear for women who have had surgery or breast problems.

Nurse and breast cancer care specialist Marita Louis runs the business with her partner, Lynn Smith, a former NHS manager in breast care.

Sally said: “I can’t thank them enough for the support they provide to these women which is vital during these vulnerable periods.

“Marita, age 54, works with Sally’s surgeon Lester Barr at Wythenshawe Hospital, and travels the country helping women conquer their fears.

She said: “It is very rewarding to be involved in their recovery.

“To begin with they feel apprehensive.

“Firstly, we aim for comfort and security. We build up their confidence and later, get them looking sexy.

“Her approach has even encouraged some young survivors to model underwear in a fashion show.

She said: “I told them it would change their lives and it did. It is a day and an experience they will never forget.

“It’s heart-wrenching for me to hear their stories but I always tell them to cling to hope.

“My mum Elfreda was told she had three weeks to live with stomach cancer. She is still alive today, 10 years later, and is 78.

“I feel blessed to be able to do a job that makes these women feel so good about themselves.”

The new showroom, in Withington Avenue, is open on Monday from 9am until 5pm and on Saturday from 9am to 1pm, by appointment only.
