A JOBS project which aims to help 16-18 year-olds get qualified, get work experience and get an apprenticeship has attracted a lot of interest.

The App. Club set-up by Active Synergy, based in Leigh, has been inundated with enquiries since the Journal highlighted sport and business opportunities on offer.

Project co-ordinator Michael Murray said the response had been "overwhelming" and of the 20 vacancies on both courses there were just five business and three sports positions left to fill.

The two days per week course offers individuals the chance to gain valuable work experience with a local employer and those enrolled will be paid £30 a week for attending and receive support to find an apprenticeship.

The Sport App. Club which starts next Thursday, January 24, provides the opportunity of attaining a Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in PE and School Sport and the Business App. Club course which starts on Friday, January 25, will lead to a Level 2 BTEC First Award in Business.
