WIGAN Council has this morning suspended its waste collection service because of snow.

This decision has been made for health and safety reasons.

"There has been a heavy snowfall overnight and it is continuing to snow – making many of the roads unsafe for our vehicles.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause. The decision has been taken to protect the safety of the public and our staff," said a Council spokesman.

As the council now operates a fortnightly collection, those households who will miss their collection today are advised their waste will not be collected for another two weeks. At their next collection, residents can leave side waste next to their bins and it will be collected.
