Leigh rugby club strikes Olympic gold

A FAMILY sports club that has grown into one of the country's leading amateur rugby league outfits has struck gold.
Leigh Miners Rangers RL Academy has secured £50,000 Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund towards their clubhouse extension project.
The new extension at Manchester Road will have two new changing rooms, a lift for disabled access, treatment rooms, a new function room and a VIP area with a pitch side balcony.
The club has experienced significant growth in recent years and the need to cater for an increased number of visitors The extension will also be open for use by other activities and as a centre for other community organisations.
Life President, Trevor Barton MBE said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can continue to grow the club for the benefit of our young people in the community.
"Leigh Miners Rangers is genuinely a family club and has an ethos of helping young people develop across the board.”
Leigh MP Andy Burnham, who has close links with the club, said: “I am fully aware of the vision and great work done at Leigh Miners Rangers as my son plays there.
"Rugby league is at the heart of what our community does and of course, it also impacts on the health of our community as well.
"Leigh is a hotbed for rugby league and I’m sure that this grant will massively help Leigh Miners Rangers RL Academy to improve participation in this great game.”
