COMMUTERS endured an horrendous morning rush hour journey today with Leigh gridlocked with lengthy traffic jams traffic stretching back to Tyldesley, Astley, Glazebury and Lowton.
Light snowfall overnight plus traffic light failure on the A580 Liverpool-East Lancashire Road at the junction with Atherleigh Way, and the knock-on effect of collisions on the M60 and M6 motorways, resulted in chaos as drivers tried to find a way around the jams.
Leigh and Tyldesley town centres were choked with slow-moving, stop-start traffic and drivers reported a normal 10 minute journey taking up to 90 minutes.
