Active Living team highlight stroke dangers for Leigh people

A DAY specially devoted to highlight Stroke Awareness brought together people off all ages.

The Active Living Team from Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust staged the event to provide information eveeryone needs to keep healthy, happy and protect themselves against stroke.

NHS Ashton, Leigh and Wigan, Stroke Association and Think Ahead Community Stroke Group took over the sports hall at Robin Park and advisors explained how individuals can look after themselves through healthy eating and exercise.

The highlight of the day was a chair-based exercise session which saw 110 people moving in unison to music.

Event organiser Debbie McCann explained: “Stroke can affect people at any age but is most common amongst people over 65.

“However there is plenty people can do to guard against it and taking regular exercise is just one great way. Our session showed exercise can be easy, fun and sociable and it could also save your life.”
