ALWAYS up for a challenge drama pupils at a Tyldesley school decided to stage the full-length Broadway and West End spectacular The Phantom of the Opera.

Now Fred Longworth High School is celebrating another exceptionally well-received show which resulted in 30 messages of praise plus 44 cards and 50 letters of congratulation.

The high notes were not a problem for leading lady and Year 11 pupil Caitlin Wineyard who wowed audiences over four nights last week with her stunning, West End-worthy vocal and acting abilities.

The Phantom was played by Year 10 pupil Callum Dootson who shrugged off a sore throat to give a superb, accurate, performance.

The 40 strong cast ensured this production is defintely one to remember and Freddies' technicians made a lasting impression creating a boat which sailed effortlessly across the theatre and a chandelier which dropped towards the audience, amid spectacular pyrotechnics.Director and Head of Drama, Alison Bell, said: "We had to think big to improve on the last few, so that's what we did. I knew Freddies' students were more than capable. I am blessed to work with such unbelievably talented and dedicated staff and students, and, of course, the enthusiastic, positive and supportive parents. They made my dream an oustanding reality."
