A SLEEPING teenager woke up with a scream when she discovered a burglar in her bedroom.

The 13-year-old girl was asleep in the bedroom of a house on Ash Grove, Golborne at around 3am on Monday, February 11 when a man opened a bedroom window and climbed inside.

He moved to the bedroom where the girl was asleep and made a hurried escaped through the window when she yelled out.

He got away with a packet of cigarettes.

The intruder was white, tall and thin.

PC Sophie Roberts based at Leigh Police Station said: "The teenager is understandably still shaken. Fortunately, she was not hurt.

"We believe this man was an opportunist who was testing windows and doors to see if they were open. All doors and windows should be locked, even if someone is in the house."

Anyone with information about the incident should phone police on 0161 856 7371 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
