RAILWAY memorabilia will be among items coming up for auction at Glazebury Methodist Church.

Lots donated include a rare pair of British Rail finger boards used at London stations in the 1950s and several wagon repair plates from the 1970s.

Organiser Peter Caswell explained: "These are collectors' items that were fitted to goods wagons so they could be identified in case of a fire. In the past we have auctioned items that were salvaged from railways in southern Ireland.

"The 25th annual auction will be held on Saturday March 9, and looks set to be the best yet."

Donations for this popular fund-raising event are still being sought but already a number of unusual pieces of household furniture, fittings and collectables are expected.

Viewing will be from 11.00am on the day and the first lot will come under the hammer at 1.00pm.

Lunches will be served from 11.00am and refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon.

Anyone wishing to donate items to be auctioned or requiring further information should contact Robert Graham on 01925-767599 / 07806-600508 or Delia and Peter Caswell on 01942-671938 / 07986-850239.
