THE Thomas Burke pub in Leigh town centre has gained top marks for hygiene.

The pub in Leigh Road was awarded a five star rating by Wigan Council’s inspectors in a Scores on the Doors exercise that aims to highlight hygiene standards in pubs, restaurants, take-aways and clubs borough-wide.

Inspectors judge outlets on how hygienic and well-managed food preparation is and each business is benchmarked against the same criteria.

Welcoming the rating Thomas Burke manager, Philippa Hampson, said: “I am delighted and I’m sure our customers will welcome the news too.

“Standards of hygiene are of paramount importance.

“Staff work hard to ensure the pub offers customers the highest levels of hygiene at all times."
