A WOMAN who recalls seeing the Hindenberg airship fly over her home in Golborne has celebrated her 101st birthday.

May Laybourne was joined by family, friends and residents at a party held for her at The Old Rectory Nursing Home in Grappenhall where she now lives.

She said the secret to her long life is good living, good food and a caring husband, to whom she was married for 56 years.

Devoted to her family, Mrs Laybourne added that she loves their company and has two daughters, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
