A COMPANY which is lighting the way with a futuristic approach to energy saving has scooped a second major manufacturing award.

Atherton-based MHA Lighting, which designs and manufacturers market-leading efficient LED lighting products, fought off tough competition from five fellow finalists, including BAE Systems, to win the Manufacturing Innovation category in the 2013 Made in the North West Awards.

Tom Harrison, managing director of MHA Lighting, said: “Winning the category truly reflects what MHA Lighting is all about – a forward-thinking, north west firm which takes pride in creating innovative lighting solutions and products that achieve significant energy and efficiency savings.”

MHA demonstrated to the panel of independent judges how it has generated a substantial commercial benefit from its innovative lighting products.

Mr Harrison said: “All our lighting is designed, developed and manufactured in the north west. We are committed to growing a strong manufacturing base in the UK.

“It is with great pride that I say we are proving pioneering technology can be manufactured and distributed from the north west in large volumes.”

MHA Lighting customers include the Trafford Centre, NHS healthcare, local authorities, Birmingham NEC, Greater Manchester Police, Manchester Airport Group and Newcastle Airport.

MHA Lighting is the only LED manufacturer to shine light sideways into encapsulation, avoiding direct contact with the eye and providing a safe and efficient light output. They also use acrylic rods to amplify and control the light output, reducing the number of LEDs required.
