CHILDREN and parents are warned to be alert after a man in a black BMW tried to entice two youngsters into his car.

At 4.05pm on Monday an 11 year-old boy and a 10 year-old girl were in Chapel Street near the Warrington Road junction when the driver pulled up and asked them to post a letter for him.

"He asked them to get into the car because he said the post office was a long way off but they refused,"said a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police.

"They walked away and went into a shop and the man drove off. They did exactly the right thing in refusing to get in the car."

The driver is described as having white or light brown skin with a shaven head and he wore sunglasses. He spoke with an English accent.

Police advise anyone with information about this or similar incidents to call 101.
