Legal aid budget cuts warning for vulnerable

LEGAL aid budget cuts could be depriving vulnerable people of family law services.

The warning comes from the Leigh office of Stephensons, the region’s largest family law team.

Stephensons estimates that 250,000 family law cases each year could lose legal aid funding from April 1.

Victoria Gethin, head of family law in Stephensons’ Leigh office, said: “We are particularly concerned for the future welfare of children.

“We are trained to put children’s welfare first and our commitment to that obligation has not changed.”
