YOUNGSTERS in Leigh have been getting eco-friendly as part of International Earth Day.
Pupils at St John’s Infant School, on Kirkhall Lane, were joined by the Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s Playin’ Out team for a range of eco activities, including den building and making fairy houses and crafts.
The children also toasted marshmallows on the campfire, painted trees on the school walls and went on a bug hunt.
Head teacher Emma Lightfoot said: “Days like Earth Day are so important for enriching our children’s learning and teaching them about the importance of looking after the world.”
Ellen Belshaw, the council’s environmental education officer, told the children all about waste, and they also had a visit from an expert bee-keeper.
