12:10pm Saturday 17th August 2013 in News
THE British Legion and The Royal Navy Association are in the final stages of putting names on the war memorial at Atherton that are missing from the Roll of Honour from the second World War and also from other conflicts since the 2nd World war such as Northern Ireland, Iraq & Malaya.
Anyone who has relatives who died in such conlicts and whose names are missing from the Atherton memorial should contact the Royal British Legion secretary Peter Powell on 01942 791319 or Bob Splaine on 01942 874320.
The Atherton branches of the RNA and RBL meet at 8pm on the second Thursday of each month at the Atherton Arms, Tyldesley Road, Atherton.
"Once we have all the names they will be submitted to Wigan Council who will arrange for their inclusion on the Roll of Honour at Atherton. The closing date for this year will be September so that we can try and get this year’s list included for the November Remembrance service," said Mr Splaine.
