Twenty pubs, clubs and bars pledge to give customers a safe night out in Wigan borough

ENSURING customers enjoy a safe, trouble-free night out is top of the list of musts for an increasing number of pubs, bars and clubs.
An increasing number of licensed premises have signed-up for Wigan’s Best Bar None scheme working with emergency services and Wigan Council.
To qualify they have to meet certain standards particularly those designed to reduce crime and disorder, prevent public nuisance, promote public safety, protect children from harm and raise awareness around alcohol consumption.
Accreditation is awarded only when judges are satisfied that a strict set of criteria are complied with.
Leigh Clr Kevin Anderson, cabinet portfolio holder for safer communities at Wigan Council, said: “This scheme was a huge success last year with 17 pubs, bars and clubs working together to provide a safe environment for their staff and customers. I’m pleased that we’ve been able to build upon this success and 20 premises have signed up this year.”
Once bars, pubs and nightclubs have been accredited, judges will then determine which ones have demonstrated exceptional commitment to community safety. Winners will be recognised at an awards ceremony in October.
