Community champion Trevor Barton appointed to Leigh Centurions RLFC management board
8:20am Wednesday 28th August 2013 in News
Leigh Centurions RLFC has appointed former Chief Executive Trevor Barton MBE to the management board.
Mr Barton had taken a sideways move from his voluntary role as CEO to wortk as the club's community champion.
His successor John Roddy, who was recently club chairman welcomed Mr Barton's appointment.
“As unanimously agreed and requested during our recent Board Meeting, I formally invited Trevor to join our Board to both represent the Leigh Centurions Community Foundation and to bring increased experience to what is already a very strong team. It is with great delight that we can now announce to our supporters that Trevor has accepted our invitation and has agreed to join the Board of Management with immediate effect," he said.
"Since we have taken over the club we have been very impressed by the Foundation and what they are already achieving and looking to achieve working within our Community.
"As people are aware it is the Board of Managements goal to create a community club second to none in RL as such Trevor’s appointment to the Board is a strategic part of our business planning as we continue to move forward towards a bright future”.
Accepting the new position Mr Barton said: "It is a new responsibility which I gladly accept but which I take very seriously, I am very much relishing the chance of working with people who are equally as passionate about Leigh Centurions and our Community. In June 2011, I took on the role as CEO of the Club in a voluntary capacity that lasted for very nearly two years.
"It was invariably challenging and I learnt a lot very quickly. Perhaps that time, coupled with over 30 years in the Community game and now developing our new Community Foundation gives me an opportunity to add a dimension to the Board’s deliberations.
"We are very fortunate that we have a man of John Roddy’s dynamism and acumen at the helm. He can count on my total support and respect for him and the club as can all my new fellow Directors.”
