Bananas and willpower fuel Voice singer's charity bike ride

BANANAS and willpower are keeping a Tyldesley singer on track to complete an epic bike ride.
The Voice UK finalist David Julien and his friend Mark McKeever have made it to the last leg of their charity ride from Leigh to Barcelona.
Having reached the south of France in just under a week, they now face a gruelling cycle over the Pyrenees along a coastal path.
David, aged 24, said: “It has been difficult. We have been getting through by the sheer power of bananas, willpower and bitterness.
“The weather has not been the kindest either and there was a day when we rode for 30 miles in non-stop rain. Wet to the core we were. The scenery itself has been breathtakingly beautiful.”
The pair set off on August 18 and hope to complete the 1,300-mile ride in only 16 days.
David, who now lives in Leigh, said: “We made it to Narbonne earlier than planned but now we have the Pyrenees. I think I’m going to need a new pair of knees when we get past it.
“The track we are taking is really close to the coast. It’s a little winding road just crossing from the south of France to north east Spain. We don’t really know if it’s going to be suitable for the bikes but we will give it a go.
“After everything our bikes have ridden, they have done me proud so far. What’s a little mountain going to do?”
David is raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society as his grandmother, Johanna Lynch, has suffered from the disease for over 10 years.
