VIDEO: Jade's Campaign launches to encourage responsible dog ownership
2:57pm Friday 27th September 2013 in News
HUNDREDS of dog owners brought their pets to the launch of Jade's Campaign.
The campaign hopes to raise awareness of responsible dog ownership in order to prevent further deaths such as that of 14-year-old Jade Lomas-Anderson.
Since she was attacked by a pack of dogs earlier this year, her parents have been campaigning for stricter dog laws but this approach is more about prevention than punishment.
By offering free microchipping and behaviour advice, the event, organised by Wigan Council and Blue Cross, hopes to teach dog owners how to keep their pets under control.
So eager is the community to get involved, several dog owners arrived well before the 1pm start and it was not long before a queue had formed.
The dogs ranged from big to tiny with some puppies aged only a few weeks old.
Nevertheless the message was the same, learning how to correctly look after a dog can prevent similar tragedies happening again.
The event, at the Dorset Road Community Centre in Atherton, will run until 6pm tonight, Friday.
