Personal best for grandma in military style challenge

A GRANDMA was thrilled to achieve a personal best in a gruelling military style charity challenge.
Janet Lycett, aged 51, ran 10 miles over rough terrain carrying 35lbs on her back in two hours and nine minutes to complete the Paras’ 10 challenge at barracks in Catterick fifth in her age group.
It is the third Paras’ 10 challenge that the grandmother of two has completed this year.
Janet, of Wenlock Road, Pennington, said: “After eight miles I encountered the famous "Land of Nod" the largest and steepest part of the training area. With my sweat dripping it was just a case of wading the deep puddles and climbing the last cheeky little hill before crossing the finish line.”
She has so far raised more than £200 for Wigan and Leigh Hospice, a charity close to her heart for the care it provided her family when her mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer eight years ago.
“I was so inspired by the support, compassion and care they provided not only for my mother but for our whole family that I decided I would like to support them in any way possible,” she said.
“The race raised a lot of support for the armed forces and various charities but now it is feet up and rest until the training begins for Paras’ 10 Aldershot 2014.”
