A WRITING group is celebrating the launch of its first anthology.
The Magic of Words, written by members of Tyldesley Creative Writers, will be launched this Saturday.
“In Magic of Words, we have a diverse selection of imaginative, humorous, nostalgic and topical poems and stories that demonstrate how the words we read have the magical quality of affecting the reader,”
said group organiser Mary Berry.
The book costs £5.99 from Mary at the library on Tuesday mornings or can be ordered on 07905 729819.
Topics covered in the book include the nostalgic Saturday Mornings remembering the 1950s and children’s cinema visits, Horses for Courses, a topical food debate, Metaphors (and Others), a clever and imaginative story that plays on words and I Don’t Do Words, the personal dilemma of a would-be writer.
Tyldesley Creative Writers meet each Tuesday between 10.30am and 12.30pm at Tyldesley Library, Stanley Street. New members are always welcome whatever their level of writing skills.
Saturday’s book launch will take place between 1pm and 3pm at Cadence Cafe (CIC), Chapel Street, in Tyldesley town centre. The event will feature readings, raffles and refreshments.
Contributors to the book are members Anne Moores, Barbara Clark, Barbara Roberts, Barbara Robertson, Diana Brooks, Doris Critchley, Eddie Campbell, Ena Cunliffe, Gillian Whittaker, Irena Gillette, Jessica Kissell, Joan Patrick, Mary Berry, Mary Morley and Pat Starkey.
Work by Violet Lord, who recently passed away, and the late Alan Slater also feature.
