GOLDEN girl Heather Frederiksen’s incredible performances as a member of the Great Britain Paralympics team will be remembered forever.
At the London 2012 games the Leigh swimmer, who lives in Lowton, won a gold medal in the women’s 100 metres backstroke event and in her honour the Royal Mail repainted a town centre red post box glittering gold.
A postage stamp was also issued bearing her image.
Now Royal Mail has announced that the post box in Market Street will stay gold as a permanent reminder of Heather’s achievement in the historic games.
Leigh sporting MP Andy Burnham MP, who joined Heather at the golden box to celebrate, said: “This is a unique and highly visible recognition of the success of Team GB, but in particular Heather’s superb victory at London 2012.
“She is an inspiration and I know that the whole Leigh community is very proud of her achievements.”
