PUPILS have been enriching their lives at Lowton Church of England High School.

Classes were suspended for a day to give more than 700 students, teachers and guests the chance to explore some of life's big questions and possibly come up with a few answers as part of a special Enrichment Day experience.

They learnt about how to stay safe and their own futures through a series of stimulating and thought-provoking activities.

Head teacher John Shanahan says: “These days help our students to put some of the knowledge and skills they pick up as part of their normal lessons into action. We believe that a good education is all about variety and by doing something new and different with our students we can help them to learn new things and appreciate the world around them more.”

A road safety team gave a presentation to year sevens while year eights met and spoke to representatives from different faiths and year nines discussed careers with prospective employers and higher education colleges.

Deputy head teacher Joanne Shaw said: “We have provided something for everyone and it's all be designed around where they in their school journey.

"For the younger children we have given them some exciting and interesting projects to encourage them to think about the world around them.

"For the older children we are concentrating on sessions that will help them with their studies, their option choices for GCSEs and ultimately their career choices.”

Year 10 took on the role of stock market traders to test their science and maths skills while year 11 saw scenes from their GCSE text Heroes brought vividly to life.

Mr Shanahan added: “Once again the Enrichment Day has been different, exciting, fun and a great success. We know the students love them too and we're already planning our next one.”
