CARERS from a Hindley base have set sail in the Yorkshire Dales thanks to money secured from a housing provider.

Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre secured £1,500 funding from Adactus Housing Neighbourhood Fund to pay for a barge trip and coffee morning for 48 of its carers.

They boarded the Dalesman in Skipton and enjoyed afternoon tea whilst absorbing the beautiful scenic views of the dales.

Lindsay Greenhalgh, neighbourhood development officer at Adactus, said: “It’s great that the carers have been able to get some respite and enjoy spending time with their friends. The staff and volunteers at the centre work really hard to provide support for carers so it’s fantastic that we have been able to help by funding the social activities.”

The centre is based in Hindley and is a one stop shop for carers to access emotional support, training, information and advice away from their caring role.
