STUDENTS have completed an intensive training programme for a borough-wide Volunteer Police Cadets force.

St Mary’s Catholic High School in Astley developed a partnership with GMP to help launch the cadets training which will be rolled out across the rest of Greater Manchester.

Sir Peter Fahy, Chief Constable and Tony Lloyd, Police and Crime Commissioner of GMP attended an award ceremony at the school where cadets from across the borough received their beret and certificate of recognition.

PC Alison Casey who runs the scheme at St Mary's said: "We have some truly inspirational children in Leigh and this was shown tonight. I'm so proud of the 27 children that form part of the police cadets.

"These children are giving their time to make our communities a better place to live and you will start to see them out in our communities helping to make a difference to people’s lives."
