A 43-YEAR-OLD man has 'life changing' injuries following a crash in Lowton this morning, Thursday.

Police say the collision took place on Newton Road around 10.30am when the man was driving his Nissan Nivara 4x4 collided head-on with a Volvo tipper truck.

The impact caused the lorry to crash into a tree which, in turn, fell onto a parked Fiat Punto.

The Nissan driver was trapped inside his vehicle and he was later removed by firefighters. He was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where he is having treatment for serious and life-changing injuries.

No-one else was injured.

Part of Newton Road was closed to allow emergency services to help.

Traffic officers are now appealing for any witnesses to call 0161 856 4742.
