Second awareness day for Jade's Campaign a success
11:30am Tuesday 17th December 2013 in News
DOG owners flocked to a second awareness day for Jade’s Campaign which aims to cut the risk of dog attacks.
Hundreds turned out to Pennington Flash Country Park in Leigh where 34 dogs were micro-chipped and 195 dog owners were given expert advice on how to taking care of and controlling their pets.
The awareness day was launched following the death of Jade Lomas-Anderson, the 14-year-old mauled to death in March by a pack of dogs in Hag Fold, Atherton.
Donna Hall, chief executive of Wigan Council, said: “The message we want people to understand is that if a dog isn’t cared for properly they can potentially become dangerous.
“This is a major campaign for the council and we plan to hold a series of community events over the coming months. We are committed to working with Jade’s family to raise awareness of this issue and to encourage people to care for their dogs responsibly.”
