A SINGING sensation’s bid for the Christmas number one spot is for more than just the glory.

Eleven-year-old Jack Topping’s charity single Tomorrow was released on Monday and is the bookies’ second favourite for the sought-after number one spot behind this year’s X Factor winner Sam Bailey.

A minimum of 50p from each sale of the Astley chorister’s track from his debut album Wonderful World will be donated to Save the Children, a charity for which he is an ambassador.

Speaking to the Journal this week, he said: “This year has been incredible so far, I don’t think it could have got any better.

“I will be over the moon if I get the Christmas number one.

“It would be amazing because it will help children in South Africa that live in poverty.

“I will celebrate a little bit if I get it but I don’t know how, but I am looking forward to enjoying Christmas with my family and performing. I love singing and it was really exciting to release my own album.”

Jack attended St Ambrose Barlow Primary in Astley but now goes to a specialist school, St Edward’s College in West Derby, Liverpool.

His busy Christmas schedule has so far seen him perform for the Queen at the Royal Variety Show and sing a duet with Aled Jones at the Royal Albert Hall.

Jack’s mum Anita said: “He would love to have a Christmas number one but I don’t think he wants it for the glory. He wants it because it is for Save the Children.

"He went out to visit some of the children the charity helps earlier this year and it really moved and humbled him because he realised how important the work they do is.

“He has got a very busy schedule of performances at the moment but he is just full of life. He has so much energy which really helps him keep up with everything that has been going on.”

Jack was the youngest artist to be signed by Decca Records after he was talent spotted while singing for the choir at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

Anita added: “It is very surreal. We took him to him to voice test last year and we didn’t realise it was for Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and so when he was selected to sing that in itself was wonderful but when he was offered the record deal it was unbelievable.”
