A HEN took the lead role in Newton Westpark Primary School’s nativity play.

A Cock-a-doodle Christmas tells the story of the farm animals present at the birth of Christ and how it was the best present they could have got.

Business manager Lilian Borrows said: “It was a lovely, heart-warming performance with a bit of a twist to the story.”

Sacred Heart Primary School’s reception class entertained some North Pole elves that had to take a break from making toys because of an outbreak of flu.

The elves discovered the real meaning of Christmas by watching the pupils’ nativity called The Elves have got the Flu.

In Golborne Community Primary School’s Christmas show, nursery and reception classes danced their way through The Wriggly Nativity which included a special song performed with some wriggly movements.

Meanwhile St Mary’s Church in Lowton has been decorated with a collection of Christmas trees thanks to donations from businesses.

The church also held a Christingle service and donated all funds raised to the Children’s Society.
