A SCHOOL is celebrating following a positive Ofsted report.

The government watchdog recently inspected Bedford High School and labelled elements of the school as ‘outstanding’ and ‘good’ overall.

Achievement, quality of teaching, behaviour, and safety as well as the leadership and management of the Leigh school have all been hailed as good by the inspectors.

The Ofsted inspectors noted: “In the large majority of lessons teaching is good and some teaching is outstanding. Teachers’ good subject knowledge and their enthusiasm are having a positive impact on students’ attainment and progress.

“Students say they enjoy the vast majority of their lessons. They say that they are well taught, know how well they are doing and get good support from their teachers.”

Students are praised for their good behaviour both in and out of the classroom with the inspectors noting that they are: “Polite, well-mannered and courteous towards each other, staff and visitors.”

Head teacher Helen Phillips said: “I am very pleased that our achievements have been recognised. I would like to thank everyone for their committed response to the high expectations that have been placed upon them.

“Whilst we are delighted with this report, we are in no way complacent. Bedford High School is on a journey of continuous improvement and we are committed to providing our young people with the high quality education they deserve.

“We will take onboard all the comments of the inspection team and I believe we have the capacity to move from a good to an outstanding school.”
