VOLUNTEERS have given Boothstown schoolchildren a crash course in mountain rescue.

Mike O’Brien, Paul Chisolm with his SADRA dog Bella, and Jess Ellsmore from Bolton Mountain Rescue visited the Holy Family Catholic Primary School in December.

They talked to all the classes about the service they provide on the West Pennine Moors. Children learnt how the rescue animals are trained, first aid and casualty care as well as different methods of search and rescue.

Project coordinator at the school Katie Clark said: “All the classes had a wonderful time meeting the team and asking questions.”
