Golborne teen scoops top prize on lottery scratch card

A TEENAGER is celebrating after scooping £100,000 on a National Lottery scratch card.

Rebecca Tierney, aged 19, only bought the £1 scratch card by chance the day before Christmas Eve after she went out to her local shop for a can of coke.

The former factory worker lives in Golborne with her family and three-month-old son and is looking forward to treating them all to a holiday.

She said: “I rarely buy scratch cards but I had bought a can of coke and just thought I could be lucky.

“I waited until I got home before scratching the card. I initially thought I had won £2 and I was absolutely delighted. But then I realised it was actually the top prize. I just could not believe it. I kept looking at the card.

“I didn’t want to put it down or let it out of my sight. I slept with it under my pillow just in case.

“By this time the shop had closed so I had to wait a day before I could check if what I was seeing really was true. It was just the best present I could ever have wished for. I have never considered myself lucky.

“I am looking forward to a great future ahead for both myself and my son. This win really has changed my life.”

Rebecca will turn 20 on January 13 and is planning on learning to drive so she can buy her dream car, a Mini.

She said: “I have never been able to afford driving lessons so I am definitely going to start to learn to drive and I absolutely love the Mini so hopefully I will be able to buy my dream car too.”

The winning scratch card was bought from Hooton News in Church Street, Golborne.
