BUDDING authors and storytellers were treated to a master class in the trade by an award-winning writer.

Alan Gibbons paid a visit to Lowton CE High School on Monday to share the secrets of his success and tutor the pupils in how to write their own stories and tales.

The author, whose book Shadow of the Minotaur won the Blue Peter Book Award in 2000, gave a talk to year eight pupils before exploring different writing styles with pupils at a writing workshop.

Language for learning co-ordinator for the school Laura Cooper said: “What a fantastic experience. Alan captivated our students with his life story and the guidance he provided will inspire a new generation of readers and creative writers."

He was also popular with the pupils. Jake Dean said: "I loved it, he taught us lots of things about how to write a good story and his books are intense and phenomenal.”
