A TEENAGER has organised a music night to raise money to fight a disease she has suffered from.

Rosie Heaton was inspired to become a young ambassador for charity Meningitis Now by a fellow sufferer, Alex Williams, who died in 2012 after suffering a stroke.

The 16-year-old has organised an acoustic evening at Nexus Art Cafe, on Dale Street in Manchester, on Friday night with live sets from Tori Wooff and Holly Jenkinson.

Rosie, of Kepplecove Meadow, Boothstown, said: “Meningitis Now is a cause close to my heart. I had meningitis 10 years ago but luckily pulled through. I first started fundraising for the charity when I met Alex, their founding young ambassador, at a family day in 2011.

“Alex changed my outlook on life and showed me how much of a need there is for funds and awareness. Since he passed away in 2012 I have worked tirelessly to continue his work.

“I hope lots of people will come along and enjoy the evening while learning a bit about the disease and contributing to this very worthy charity.”

All proceeds will help fund research, raise awareness and provide support for those fighting back from the disease.

Fundraising officer Becky Dodd said: “Meningitis can be a cruel disease which can rob families of their future overnight but through the support of Rosie and those like her we’re able to provide hope for those fighting back. Meningitis changes lives but Meningitis Now can change futures.”
