A TOUGH stance is being taken to stub out smokers dropping cigarette butts.

Environmental enforcement officers are taking to the streets to issue fines to people who drop litter.

More than 1,000 fixed penalties have been issued since September last year for dropping cigarette ends, which accounts for 90 per cent of environmental crime.
